I am about to run out to have dinner, but I wanted to share the pictures of the Strawberry Jam I made last Tuesday (another quick day at work due to a dentist appointment). I was shocked to discover how much sugar was put into jam. With the recipe that I used, the sugar amount is almost the same as the actual fruit. In the future, I am definitely going to find ways to make jam more healthier-and until then, I will think twice about licking the knife (well actually I probably won't..hehe)
I also want to just state that I made a HUGE mess while making this jam. At one part the recipe said that I had to keep the jam at a rolling boil for 1 minute. Seems pretty simple, except when the jam boiled it increased in volume by about 5x. It bubbled up out of the huge stockpot and fell over the oven. Meanwhile I am dodging giant, popping jam bubbles while trying to stir, counting the minute down. I came out with only one injury and I was happy about that! Nevertheless, I now have enough jam to last for a really, really long time.
I read after I made the jam that with butter/margarine, I could have limited the increase of size and foaming action. Note to self: this is a mandatory extra step.

OMG haha...I would never be able to make jam. I was boiling water for pasta the other night and that was eventful enough (the pot boiled over and I tried to pick up the lid, but i dropped it and it landed upside down back on the pot).
ReplyDeleteIs the weather nice in Seattle now? It's pretty nice in Portland, which means that everyone's wearing booty shorts and tank tops (though it's only about 60 degrees).
haha. I have never really minded the water boiling over, it makes a scary sound-but I don't think it actually does any damage to the stove. It just turns water to steam?
ReplyDeleteThe weather has been nice this weekend. No more booty shorts around Greenlake than normal. I have seen a few short sun dresses, but the wind has kept them at bay. I have accumulated quite a spring wardrobe this season, so I am ready for the sun to warm up and keep on shining.
Oh, I just wanted to share the greatest accomplishment today: I mowed part of the lawn for the first time in my life. I have never pushed a mower, and today, I started it by pulling on the cord and pushed it. ta-da!
Yayyy haha. I saw a girl wearing a short sundress today (it was probably too small for her in the first place) and then she bent over and accidentally showed everyone her butt...
